Transforming Insurance Claims through Cutting-Edge UX Design
Processing insurance claims can be a complex and time-consuming task, often plagued by inefficiencies, errors, and a lack of transparency. These challenges can lead to customer dissatisfaction and increased operational costs. In response to these difficulties, we were approached by an insurance company looking to revolutionize their claims process. Our goal was to implement a custom user interface, enhanced with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This strategic initiative required us to adopt a meticulous and structured approach to design and development, ensuring we met their specific needs.
Research and Insight
I conducted an in-depth discovery workshop to map out the current claims process, envision the ideal future state, document relevant data, and create user journeys and personas. During this workshop, we were able to gather valuable insights and identify pain points from the users. This comprehensive approach led to the development of a precise business opportunity statement.

Problem Statement
The current claims process is characterized by inefficiencies, inaccuracies, and extended approval times, resulting in customer dissatisfaction and elevated operational costs. The company aims to leverage Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to transform the claims process, enhancing its speed, accuracy, and user-friendliness.
Design Process
User Research: I initiated the project by conducting a design workshop with key stakeholders, followed by playback sessions to gather critical insights. Brainstorming sessions were pivotal in generating innovative ideas and potential solutions, resulting in the development of detailed end-user personas and user journey maps.
Agile Methodology: Adopting an agile approach, I delegated tasks among team members, incorporating sprint planning and timeline targets for each action item. This ensured a structured and iterative development process.
Wireframing and Design: Utilizing the Carbon design system, I developed low-fidelity wireframes, which received positive initial client feedback. This feedback facilitated the creation of high-fidelity designs. I collaborated closely with AI engineers to ensure seamless integration and technical feasibility.
User Testing and Feedback: Weekly standups with stakeholders were conducted to facilitate user testing sessions, allowing for continuous iteration of the product over a six-week period. Initial user surveys indicated an average satisfaction score of 6/10, which improved to 9.5/10 following the final prototype.
Handoff and Observation: I transitioned the final designs and documentation to the development team for implementation. Ongoing observation ensured that the product remained user-centric and optimized for the end-user experience.
